What is Steampunk?

Steampunk is what, and who, I am. It’s not just a fashion fad or cosplay, it’s a full on culture – a sense of being and self that allows you to express yourself in ways outside of the “Popular Culture” norm. It’s society, culture, art, music, fashion and expression. In short, it’s everything!
One of the inevitabilities of Steampunk, is that it never turns out as black and white as you think it will! It’s so complicated and fluid, and I think that’s what I like about it; the unpredictability of it – how you can never failed to be awed, inspired or surprised. The true beauty in Steampunk is that it’s always changing, always developing, and always staying one step ahead of the mainstream pull.

Steampunk is a subculture-genre that utilises the aesthetics, etiquette and vision of the Victorian era as inspiration for its creations, or, to correct the more common description, it is Victorian-Inspired Science Fiction. Steampunk encompasses a variety of areas, including fashion, music, fine art and games (yes, there are Steampunk games!), though until recently it was primarily seen as a literary sub-genre of science fiction.
